Raiders of the Void
Hunger. A force that can move the universe in so many different ways. The need to consume and survive.
The Chui'lann are not driven like animals by hunger. Yet they are forced to always search for more to eat.
Not out of fear or distress, but instead out of duty.
A people who had spent their entire history fighting themselves and their planet. Insectoids made of metal and only able to eat metals. Biologically immortal, but without fuel... Subject to becoming food themselves.
Only united when the first ship they had ever encountered graced their atmosphere to scout. Which they directed their magnetic roads to the sky, pulling them down to planet. Taking and learning from the technlogy. For if there was one steel craft, there must be more.
So they reached the stars... And Thrived.
Constantly searching for more metal, as immortal in many senses of the word for it. Not to naturally decay if kept from rust. Unable to age. Only their own bodies eating themselves pose true risk. Being melted down and becoming little more than slag.
So, they search the stars for more. To bring home, to claim for themselves. For a step towards greater purpose. In the end, they always need more to sate their hunger.
